How do acid blockers affect protein digestion? - gut health, reflux, heartburn, acid blockers

Are you loading up on protein to build muscle?

Are you taking acid blockers for reflux and heartburn?

Acid blocking actually decreases protein digestion in the stomach. You are wasting money, time, and effort.

Did you know that it is now assumed that by actually increasing stomach acid production, one can better improve reflux and heartburn? Meaning, that maybe reflux and heartburn are from too little stomach acid, not too much. I don't think this is the same for all people. Some (a very few with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome) may have too much stomach acid. But this is very rare.

Either way, if you can help address reflux and heartburn without acid blockers you are much more likely to get better protein absorption making all that protein you are eating work more for you.

Or you can continue to load up on both protein and acid blockers thereby decreasing protein digestion in the stomach.
