Back to School: preparing for all the germs - gut health, probiotics, prebiotics, mucosal barrier

If you are strictly playing defense with cold & flu season you have already lost. The secret to winning is making sure you and your children have strong immune systems that easily repel sicknesses. This means that instead of the cold & flu knocking you out for days and weeks, you feel tired and warn down a couple of days but bounce right back.

I used to get sick all the time from our kids bringing bugs home from school. And then our kids were always missing school because they were sick for a long time.

Here's the secret:
Look to the gut to address the immune system (70% plus of the immune system is in the gut). If you strengthen the gut, you strengthen the immune system.

1) You need to focus on the gut barrier. The whole gut barrier with a really strong / healthy mucosa.

2) You need bacteria diversity and a healthy microbiome.

3) You need the right probiotics shown to "train" the immune system so it knows the difference between good and bad stuff. These probiotics should also (via competitive exclusion) drive out the bad stuff in the gut. These are not reseeding probiotics like lactobacillus and bifidobacterium.

4) You need to constantly feed the good bacteria in the gut with precision prebiotics.

Clean up the gut and then build it up. Then when a cold/flu hits your home zinc, vitamin c, etc. are much more beneficial.

And please don't make the mistake of stopping gut helping supplements at the first signs of a cold/or flu.
